Grace S Hartford , CT August 02, 2019 Appliance: General Electric General Electric GSC3500D35WW Dishwasher wasn't draining About a year ago my dishwasher during a cycle was emitting a horrible plastic burning smell. We stopped it mid-cycle, cleaned it out and tried to run a few more cycles after that and realized it wouldn't drain so it sat in my kitchen broken for a year. I finally got so fed up with washing dishes by hand that I took the whole dishwasher apart. Confirmed there were no blockages in any of the hoses etc. when it still didn't work I googled the problem, found this website and found that it must be the solenoid. When I looked under the dishwasher I noticed that the solenoid and the armature and linkage had melted and fused together preventing it from moving up and down = the dishwasher not being able to drain. I bought both parts, replaced them within 45 min (with help from the videos on this website) and it's now up and running perfectly!!! YAYYY no more dishes in my sink!! Nathan V Grand Rapids , MI February 17, 2021 Appliance: General Electric Dishwasher GSC3500D51WW Timer would not advance on its own then smelled burning plastic and it would not pump out water. I replaced the timer, which was pretty easy. Then I replaced the solenoid as well as the armature and linkage. The old one had basically melted and the plastic fused to the armature. It was pretty easy to get the old one out- although that electrical plug did NOT want to come out. Felt like I was going to break it, but eventually got it out. You will need a fairly short screwdriver to get in the small space. The hardest part of getting the new one in was that little "E clip," but I got it eventually. Since then it's been running great!
