I have an 11 year old GE Monogram side by side built-in fridge that had been having cooling problems intermittently. The fridge would work for a day and then the compressor would not come on for 8 hours and temps would rise to the upper 20s in the freezer. First I called the local retailer to ask about a non-warranty service. Minimum $100 charge. Figured I would take a shot at the repair as I had fixed the fridge once before. The defrost heater element looked good and had continuity. The defrost thermostats checked good, so that just left the Defrost Module as the likely suspect. I installed a new defrost control module and thermostats. The thermostats were inexpensive and the old ones could have been intermittent, The only "tricky" part was finding out how to get to the back screw that holds the main control panel. This was a newer GE Monogram side-by-side unit that used an inverter compressor. I removed the inverter and used an ohmmeter to measure the resistance of each of the three windings. They were all very close to one another: about 6.8 ohms per winding. I concluded that the compressor was probably not at fault. The inverter kind of burned or chemical-ish, and, when opened, showed an electrolytic capacitor had burst. I replaced the inverter with an overnight part from Amazon. It was the same... Read more

Replaced the Main Control Board Assembly along with the evaporator and condenser fan motors. I thoroughly cleaned the very very dirty condenser with a 4$ brush offered by the parts specialist and while I was at it, I changed the door seals and replaced one of the door trays. In the past the temperature would change from one day to the next, remain constant for weeks then start rising again. Would unplug for 5 – 10 min and adjust temp and would work fine. Now Refrigerator compressor will not shut off (has been running for the last 3 days) temps are 26F on freezer side and 43F on food compartment side.
