I tipped the washer and disassembled the parts to be replaced and then installed a new clutch, clutch spring and mode shifter. Joe F Hatfield , PA November 14, 2025 My ge washing machine which is just 4 years old was making a grinding type noise during the wash cycle After looking at the parts break out and researching on line I made the decision to replace the shift actuator, clutch gear and spring, transmission pulley, and drive belt. Operation is normal after the repair but I think the service life of these components is way too short and I intend to keep some replacements in stock for the future. I replaced the clutch, clutch spring, and mode shifter. The first thing I replaced was the drive belt but that didn't help. This repair was fairly simple. I bought some grease from Lowe's.
