Dan for Model Number Ge Model PSB42YSXASS

My GE Profile refrigerator side stays consistently right where I set it (39 degrees), but the freezer is set at -6 degrees and varies daily from around +5 degrees at best and sometimes up to +20 degrees. It's been like this for over a year. The repair man came out today and checked it all out saying, "There is definitely not a sealed system issue and the fans are all working properly. My best guess is that it is a bad main control board or a bad temperature sensor. But... It is probably not a temperature sensor because the display says it is +5 degrees and it is actually +4 degrees as tested." Would you agree with that assessment?

Joe, the temperature displayed would be the temperature sensed within the freezer section itself. As such, the evaporator fan WR60X10176 will need to be inspected for proper operation as well as the frost pattern on the evaporator. The frost pattern of the evaporator should be a light coat on all of the coils. If not, then the condenser coils will need to be inspected for excessive dust that could prevent airflow through the coils, causing the freon to not cool properly. If there is not a full frost pattern, and the condenser coils are clear, then there may be a sealed system issue.

Jason, It is possible that the freezer thermistor is out of range and not reading correct temps. Check CN30 pins 2 and 3 brown and grey wires for the resistance of 29k at 0 degrees, 20k at 11 degrees and 25.5k at 5 degrees. Anything out of this range then the freezer thermistor needs replaced. Don't forget or overlook obvious things like was compressor running and all fans. Icing inside the freezer compartment is a sign of a door seal leak and the icing on the back wall is a sign of a defrost issue.

RVP, This issue sounds as though it would be caused by a main board that is sticking in the defrost cycle.

Kim, This issue sounds like it would be caused by a stuck key on the dispenser assembly and would need to have part number WR55X22608 replaced which is the dispenser control board.
