Questions & Answers

For Ge Refrigerator Main Control Board (Part Number: OEM21737484)

1 Answer

Ryan, Thank you for your question. With the fan ramping up and down, this would most likely be a control board issue in which you would need part number WR55X46805.

Melissa, I recommend using the tech sheet that came packaged with your refrigerator to run the diagnostics and check for error codes.

Hello Juan, thank you for contacting Appliance Parts Pros. If you can hear the valves activating or can verify voltage to the valves when calling for water then I would suspect an issue with the Filter Manifold [WR02X13684].

Will, if there is no voltage going to the defrost heater when a forced defrost is activated in the diagnostic mode, the failure would most likely be caused by the main control WR55X46805.

Hello Mark, thank you for contacting APP, If the Condenser Fan is still not running after being replaced but everything else is working properly, it would appear that you have a failed Main Control WR55X46805. The only other possibility is the non-serviceable wiring harness that runs through the cabinet from the control to the harness for the condenser fan, and if this were damaged the control would be getting mixed signals and showing symptoms of other issues. I would recommend replacing the Main Control.

I purchased this refrigerator new almost 6 years ago. Recently the door mounted water dispenser began freezing up. I gained access to the evaporator and discovered it to be heavily frosted up. The evaporator fan is working.Resistance through the defrost heating element is 83.5 Ohms.Continuity through the thermostat switch is 0.1 Ohms.I couldn't access the thermistor harness to measure its resistance ( the pigtail appears to be potted in the insulation of the refrigerator) I verified that there is a good ground through the harness connector. I was unable to detect any AC voltage at the harness connector. Is there technical data / wiring schematic available to help troubleshoot this issue?

1 Answer

David, There is not a tech sheet that will tell how to troubleshoot but the resistance of the heater and the continuity on the thermostat does sound good. For testing the resistance, you can test at the main control board on the J10 connector, test from pin 3 Brown/pink to Pin 4 Pink/brown. While sitting in the ice on the evaporator it should have a resistance of approximately 36.4K ohms of resistance. If the thermistor checks ok then this will be a faulty control board.

So I compressor is running, and shutting off automatically, seems to be cooling in frig and freezer is working, but have no lights inside frig, and front control is dead. I have unplugged and tried to reset, and inspected control in the back of the frig...it has a green flashing light. I assume that either the back or the front control panel is bad. How do I know which one. I have part number wx55x38248 for the back, and wr55x11144 for the front. just not sure which one to order.

1 Answer

Dan, It sounds like your unit has been placed into Sabbath Mode. The Sabbath Mode will turn off interior lights, temperature control, and advanced features. The compressor will run on a timed defrost when in Sabbath mode. To enter/exit Sabbath mode, press and hold the lock and light buttons simultaneously for 3 seconds.

Interior LED lights are dim. Followed this guidance: https://www.appliancepartspros.com/diy-story-ge-model-gfe28gskjss-refrigerator-pin-point-led-diy5053015.html Each of the five interior lights measure 2.5 volts so seem good, but the board at J14 with door open measured like 27 volts (or so). I ordered new board and installed. Same exact symptoms. New board also measures somthing like 27 V at J14 connector. Did I just get really unlucky and get a bad board (and so should return and try again)? or Is that guidance wrong and is there something else to try? thanks very much.

1 Answer

Ryan, Try unplugging the J14 connector and see what the voltage supply is with the doors open. If your supply voltage returns to normal then there is a fault in the wiring or a light.

In the fresh food section, the compartment fails to stay cold because the evaporator coils are iced up. The thermistor, temperature thermostat, and fan have been replaced. The defrost heater shows continuity on an ohmn meter and reads approximately 80 ohmns resistance, so I believe the heater is good. Am I down to replacing the main board? Each time a part was replaced, and the fridge was defrosted and restarted it cooled fine for a couple weeks before icing back up. On another note, I can't seem to get it to go into the diagnostic mode anymore. I have entered this in the past. Could this be a symptom of a bad main board as well? Thanks for any help on this.

1 Answer

Bruce, For a defrost issue, if the defrost thermostat/thermistor and the heater are good. The issue would be a timer/control board. Yes, not going into diagnostics would be a symptom of a board issue.

I have a GE Profile that was 3 years old and it died completely. I had the mother board replaced *** though I think it was just a general GE motherboard and not the one for the discontinued GE Profile. Q: Is this going to be just the beginning of the end? I mean wIll things continue to burn out...and be faulty - or should I just buy a new fridge. I don't have the energy to have things constantly go wrong. Right now the fan blade is making a horrible noise randomly because of ice build up.

1 Answer

Jamie, If the unit is repaired properly then it should work good for you. You will want to make sure that the correct control board was put into the unit which should be part number WR55X46805.
