Matt for Model Number 79577572600

First, my fridge was manufactured in 2007 so parts have been suspended over the years, and tracking down that info has been a trial. My issue is the ice tray no longer gets cold enough to make ice. It can take a couple of days for the water in the tray to actually become solid. Water flows fine, the auger works, and when ice is made it stays solid in the bin. When I touch the metal ice tray it no longer is as cold as it used to get; it's only as cold as the ice collection area. My question is on the replacement part. Your site lists EAU60943434 as compatible. From a diagram I found, this assembly includes AEQ36756901 ice maker only which is what I think needs to be replaced however, your website shows AEQ36756901 as being incompatible. So do I need to replace the whole thing due to parts revisions and superseded parts or is it just that the database doesn't include this match?

1 Answer

Our site only uses the parts on the diagram with the compatibility tool. I have done some research and the AEQ36756901 ice maker is compatible with your model. The manufacturer just has not added it to the parts diagram.

Anthony, if the ice maker section is maintaining a temperature of 0°F, the failure would be in the ice maker 4681JA1006D. Unfortunately, this part has been discontinued by the manufacturer and is no longer available.

Jim, Based on the information provided it sounds as if the cut off switch operated by the arm is stuck closed, This would require an ice maker replacement. AEQ36756901

Todd for Model Number LG LMX25981ST

The current ice maker in my LG LMX25981ST fridge stopped making ice last summer after working great for 11 years. Ice is always set to medium. After removing the ice maker, I discovered that ice had built up in the gears of the ice maker and was restricting the arm from moving up and down, thus not producing ice. I thawed the ice maker and reinstalled and no issues for a year (now). The same problem, I applied the same solution however this time it only worked for 30 -40 days and then gears locked with the same issue, My thought is that there is an overflow issue causing small amounts of water to get into the gearbox. To worsen matters, when I removed the unit the 2nd time the ground wire terminal broke off due to rust. I was able to replace the ground wire terminal but it's not pretty - does the job though. None the less, now I am thinking the best course of action is to replace the entire unit with EAU60943434. The new ice maker and update the ground wire terminal. Before I do that, however, I have also noticed a noise from time to time after the ice finishes dispensing (about 10-15 seconds of humming). My question is with the EAU60943434 fix the humming also, or do I need another part? Thanks

1 Answer

Todd, it is recommended that the ice maker door gasket ADX72909701 is inspected for any air leaks. If there is an air leak, it can cause ice to accumulate throughout the section, including the motor gears. The humming that is being heard would be the water valve that is sending water to the ice maker and it is normal to hear a hum when it is being activated. Replacing the ice maker could be beneficial if the ice accumulation has caused any damage to the ice maker that could get worse over time.

Hello Brian, the ice maker is faulty, the noise you heard indicates the control board is trying to run the ice maker, part AEQ36756901, the click noise sounds like a gear has broken inside the ice maker housing.

Bobby, based on the information provided, it sounds like the door chute motor is sticking and requiring extra tension to pull the door chute back into place. Unfortunately, the manufacturer is not showing the part number for the motor as it has been discontinued.

Tim, the temperature going to the ice maker may need to be verified with a thermometer to identify that it is maintaining below 10°F. If it is not, then the ice maker fan 5209JA1044A in the freezer section would need to be inspected for proper operation. If it is, the next step would be to press and hold the cube size selector button until all three lights blink. This will cause the ice maker to go into a manual harvest. If it successfully completes a full harvest, including filling with water, then the ice maker assembly EAU60943434 would be the most likely cause.

Ken J for Model Number LFX25960ST

Hi... out of blue ice maker is making 4 cubes a day. I replaced the water valve at the bottom of the fridge, which didn't work. I replaced the ice maker, it didn't work. Water dispenser perfect and lots of pressure. Ice maker will work manually -- if I pour water in it will freeze and eject cubes, the cycle and ask for more water. About 3 seconds worth of water -- very light flow-- does go on. But it is only enough to make a couple of small cubes and overnight I'm lucky if I have a total of 4-6 cubes. By the way, the ejection tube (into the ice maker) does not appear to be clogged or frozen... even after running a blow dryer on it for 10 minutes. It just seems like the refrigerator is asking for a tiny amount of water. Is there another valve... or reset...

1 Answer

Ken, This issue sounds like the water valve is not opening all the way or there may be a kink somewhere causing the unit to not allow enough water to come through. Check the tubing for the icemaker to make sure that it is not kinked, check also to make sure that where it connects to the fill tube there is no restriction at that point. These would be the most likely causes.
