Margarett, The reason for not having the drain hose pushed more than 4 inches into the standpipe is because it will allow an air gap between the water that is already trapped in the standpipe and the hose. If the hose meets with the water in the standpipe it can cause a siphoning effect when filling with water.

Margarett, The hose should never go more than 4 inches into the standpipe. Use zip ties to secure it so there's no chance of it coming out during a drain.

Hello Marilyn, the manufacturer does not supply the type adapter you are asking for. This is a drain plumbing problem, not a washer problem, attempting to make the drain connection air/watertight will result in siphoning of the wash /rinse water tub fill and prematurely wear out the drain pump. According to the manufacturer's installation directions the standpipe for the washer's drain hose has to be able of carrying 17 gallons a minute flow rate. It is not uncommon to have house drain pipes connected to a washer's restrict due to a build-up of debris, soap residue, hard water, grease/oil, lint. You may want to contact a plumber for this as this condition usually just gets worse and the cure could be as simple as using a pour in drain cleaner or the pipe may need to be snaked out.

Hello John. You forgot to provide the model and the serial numbers off your washer. But first try to back out the drain hose from the standpipe. You don't need more than 6" of the hose inside the standpipe. Thank you.

Matthew, This standpipe adapter should work for your standpipe but may not correct the issue of the water overflowing. For this you would want to have your home plumbing looked at for slow drain.
