Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Refrigerator Water Filter Bypass Cap (Part Number: OEM12737961)

1 Answer

Michael, The part that you ordered R0000009 is a filter head assembly with the bypass plug. Just remove the bypass plug from this part and then remove the filter on the unit and put the bypass in its place.

Richard, This whining noise would more likely be caused by a filter head that is faulty and would need to be replaced.

Amy, Yes if the filter is the issue then you can install the bypass and the unit will work normally.

Eldon S. for Model Number Amana Refrigerator SRD26VW

Water dispenser works for 1 to 2 minutes every time after reinstalling filter or bypass valve and then stops. Is it possible the solenoid on secondary valve is weak and only working for 1 to 2 minutes and then stops? Why would releasing water pressure by reinstalling bypass allow water to flow again but only 1 to 2 minutes? The water tank isn't frozen. It appears that the secondary valve is defective but shouldn't it either work or not and not on and off? There is green jell like material on line off compressor and about a golf ball size has dropped onto bottom refrigerator plate. What could this be?

Water is coming out dispenser on door initially and then not next time unless filter or bypass valve is taken off and put on again. Then it will work initially but not on next try. I tried a hair dryer on water tank for 15 minutes and then the dispenser provided water for a short time but stopped. I want to take the tank out to see if still frozen. How does tubing disconnect from water tank? Could water tube be frozen inside freezer door?

1 Answer

Hello Eldon, While the water line WPB5705307 or tank R0181175 could be freezing it is actually more probable that the filter head valve is failing. This would require to replacement of the filter head R0000009 to correct the issue.

Hello Lisa. You be able to just twist and remove the bypass from the filter head. These are tight.

Tony, If the nozzle broke off the filter head then you would have to replace the filter head R0000009. To replace it is held in by one screw. Once screw is removed you would push in on the ring around the tubing and pull the water line out. When reinstalling you just push tubing into fitting.

Hello Richard, We do not have instructions for installing the filter head but since you already have the filter head in the unit you would just pull the bypass out and install the bypass on the one already in unit.

I have an Amana side by side and the ice maker and water dispensor stopped working. I replaced the water valve and get water at the valve outlet but not at the door. I checked and replaced the filter and when it filled I got water at the door. I put everything together but it stopped working again. If I remove the filter and drain it it will refill and the water at the door works. If I wait and try it again it does not work. I pushed on the small metal valve button at the filter and get water but again it only works the first time and then stops. Could the valve at the filter assembly be bad?

1 Answer

Hello Gerry, I would first suspect the water reservoir being frozen. Try removing the bottom drawer and putting in a hair dryer for 10 to 15 minutes and see if it will dispense water. If the ice maker water is filtered also, this will correct it also. I have also gotten restricted water filters out of the box, so if you have a filter bypass plug, you can try that. The water valve is out of the question because if it works to fill the filter, it should allow water pressure to pass through the dispenser also. Let us know if we can assist further.
