For Whirlpool Electronic Control Board (Part Number: OEM18028320)

Jim for Model Number whirlpool glass tot range RF366pxgno

I heard a snap and saw a small puff of smoke. I shut of the circuit breaker the service tech just installed a new broiler element. After removing the back panel we saw that one of the elements leads shorted on to the metal of the back of the range. That problem was repaired by replacing the burnt off piece of wire and a new connector. The circuit breaker was turned on and the broiler element came on to a red glow with out turning on the broiler switch. The tech was unsure as to what she should do and said that she had to talk to the service support and would get back to me as soon as a new ? part was ordered. MY question is what did go wrong and can the situation be repaired and the +- cost

Hello Jim. Either the element is still touching metal or they shorted out the clock and it will need to be replaced.

Luis, The "PF" code in the display, is an indication of a voltage drop or outage to the range, You should check and insure the wiring connections at the terminal block are proper and tight. If the voltage to the ERC, drops below 102 VAC or you loose power completely, the "PF" error will be displayed. As for the stove not holding temperature. If the ERC and power supply are OK, the most likely issue would be in the oven temperature sensor or wiring WP8053344, Thanks and Good Luck

Hi Harry. Remove your power. Remove the door and storage drawer (if equipped). This makes it lighter /easier to slide the unit out. Remove the back. Check your terminal block for proper 240 vac and 120 vac from each Leg to neutral White wire. Unhook the sensor wires and see if it will ohm out between 1080 - 1000 ohms. Rotate the wires while checking to show for opens or shorts. If bad it is part # WP8053344. It is responsible of keeping the control aware of heat on and off cycling times. Make sure you ohm out the elements for continuity and not shorted giving partial heat. Broil elmt. part # W10856603. Bake elmt. part # WPW10308477. If these are good and the connections are tight, then focus at the relays on the clock control. While calling for heat, test to verify 120 vac from the relay outputs. If bad, then clock part # 4453711. Control - Range (white). Electronic Control Board - Color: Black WP4453710. Thank You.
