For Whirlpool Refrigerator Ice Dispenser Auger Motor (Part Number: OEM18982008)

Chris J for Model Number KitchenAid KRSC503ESS01

Thanks for your YouTube videos. I noticed one other person mentioned the broken wires at the lower hinge of the freezer door. This is what I have. I verified it's the wires that go to the auger motor. There is not enough slack in the wires to make a repair, replacing the entire wiring harness looks like a big pain. Do you even sell the harness? What a terrible design, putting thin wires in a place where they are bent and re-bent thousands of times per year. What engineer approved this design?!

John, it is recommended that the wires at the freezer door LW10334261 (part has been discontinued by the manufacturer) are inspected at the lower hinge. Based on the information provided, it sounds like there are broken wires at this location that would cause this very issue.

So I replaced the augur motor, and the auger still doesn't turn. There are no jams, the ice maker works fine and fills the bucket, The auger moves freely, the chute flap opens and closes. But when pressing the pad to dispense ice, I can only hear a click on the side/back of the refrigerator. I also changed the filter. Is there a away to see if the motor is turning while the door is open? Normally nothing functions when the door is open. Could the auger gear not be be connecting with the motor gear? What can I possible try next?? Thanks :)

Hello Becky, this being a SXS ref check the condition of the freezer door wire harness that exits at the bottom of the door by the hinge, the rear main board powers the auger motor through that harness.

Raymond, This motor will use 120VDC. It appears that there is only 2 wires and if there are more then you would test from Blu to Gray with orange stripe.

Regarding my ice dispenser: the shute opens when lever depressed, but the motor doesn't turn on to flow the ice down. Removed the auger motor W11202789 and then for testing, put it back in. Turned unit back on (taped button to make fridge think closed). Once lever depressed, shute opens as expected, but there was no DC power between the blue and grey wires--tried going both directions with my multimeter but still zero both ways. This makes me worry I have a loose wire somewhere. Another online tech is telling me I definitely have a bad motor b/c it won't turn (with my fingers I can get it to turn 1-2 mm in each direction, but it feels locked). Is that true? He seemed pretty convinced the motor should be able to turn with my fingers. Also if it is a bad wire, is there no way to open the case to look for this? I can't justify spending over $1000 on a new door on a 5 year old machine. Thanks!

Hello Michael, if the auger motor was seized you should still get a least a pulse of dc voltage at the motor when activated, since this is a SXS ref check the freezer door wire harness where it exits the at the lower door hinge for any wire problems first.

Michael, with the door switch taped in the closed position, and a meter set to DC voltage with the probes placed from the gray wire to the blue wire going to the auger motor, there should be a 140VDC reading when the ice dispenser is activated. If there is this voltage, the auger motor has failed. If there is not voltage, the wires at the door hinge would need to be checked for any broken wires. If there is a broken wire, the door LW10728959 would need to be replaced.

Rogdan51, There is an emitter and receiver board that will control the icemaker. With the icemaker not cycling, one of the boards will most likely be faulty. You can test the board by removing the ice bin and looking for the red light flashing. Push the flapper ont he opposite side and see if the light stops flashing. If it does not then this would be the emitter board that is faulty.
