The compactor failed with the ram down, so the drawer wouldn't open which in turn made the mounting brackets inaccessible. This necessitated sliding a thin oscillating saw blade between the cabinet face frame and the counter top to cut through the brackets. It was then possible to roll the unit out and place it on its side. I removed the five screws holding the bottom pan in place, dropped the pan exposing the gear/chain train. Rood Cause #1: One of the front roller bearings was worn out and did not spin freely. Solution #1: I replaced the two front roller bearing assemblies (both included 2-pack). Rood Cause #2: The bottom surface of the compactor slide-out assembly had become deformed (convex) most likely due to the repeated force of compaction over the years. TALKED TO YOUR REPRESENTATIVE AND WE WENT THROUGH ALL THE ON/OFF AND LIMIT SWITCHS. NARROWED IT DOWN TO TWO SWITCHS. THE ON/OFF SWITCH AND THE LIMIT SWITCH ON THE DOWN CYCLE SIDE. I was GREATLY surprised. I ordered 2 of the parts, to do both sides while I had it apart. The NEXT DAY the parts were at my door. I pulled the unit, and took out what seemed like a thousand screws to get the ram out. The parts just clip in. I had to straighten the ram and reassemble the unit. Replaced the motor with a direct replacement part. The wiring was not the same because the switch on the motor was different. The instructions that came with the motor were enough for me to figure out what to do. Read more

Ordered the part, which arrived incredibly fast and switched out old one for the new. Read more

Received the part, and easily removed the two metal covers on the front of the trash compactor (total of eight small metal screws) to gain access to the backside of the roller assembly (locking nut). Used a socket wrench to unscrew the nut and removed the old assembly. The new assembly easily bolted into location, followed by reinstalling the metal covers. All in all, a quick and easy repair.
