Eugene N Riverside , CA July 16, 2025 Appliance: Model 6898VVD MAGIC CHEF The right rear smaller surface heating element on our 6898vvd magic chef flat top range was completely dead The instructions that came with the replacement smaller surface heating element provided no help about how to open the top of the range, so I checked the internet. I found several videos on replacement of surface elements in flat top ranges, but none for our particular range, so I Google-searched a simple question, “How to open the top of a 6898VVD Magic Chef range”. The AI Overview answer had several points, most of them not useful, except for the last one: “Hidden Clips: There might be hidden spring clips between the top panel and the front control panel in the seam. To release them, you can try sliding a putty knife into the seam about 5 inches away from the right and left sides of the stove and pushing back on the clips.” After pulling our range out from the bay where it sits in our kitchen cabinet and disconnecting the power cord, I looked for a hinge at the back of the flat top, but found none. I did see two screws pointed forward, one at each back corner just below the frame of the glass top. I partially loosened those two screws, and then started poking with a putty knife in the seam at the front of the glass top, as the AI Overview suggested. I saw that the top of front control panel had a slightly higher region or boss in the range of 2” to 3” from the left edge of the frame of the glass top and another identical boss in the range of 2” to 3” from the right edge of the frame of the glass top. The front edge of the frame of the glass top essentially sat on these two bosses, i.e., there was virtually no gap above these bosses. By pushing the putty knife about an inch into this thin gap on top of each boss, the hidden clip at that corner was released, and then that corner of the frame of the glass top could be raised a fraction of an inch, although not much farther because of the absence of a hinge at the rear edge of the frame of the glass top. It turned out that the two forward-pointing screws at the back actually held two hooks into slots at the back, and by completely removing those two screws, those two hooks could be disengaged. With the hooks disengaged, the flat top could be lifted off the stove, and since the wiring cables were long enough, the flat top could be flipped over and laid upside down on the adjacent counter top. With the flat top on the counter top, replacement of the smaller surface heating element went fairly quickly. Jacek S Concord , CA October 22, 2015 2 out of four electric burners of my stove quit working Little procrastination paid off. With only 50% capability I knew it is time to call the appliancepartspros. They shipped me parts within 3 days. It was practical to fix both at the time. All I needed was to disconnect power at range breaker box, grab a screwdriver to lift top open, a 16 inch or so piece of old 2×4 wood to keep the top top of stove lifted, so I could access heating elements from underneath. Then I took my black sharpie And marked location of mounting screws and connectors. Also since I own a smartphone :) I made picture of the underside, so I can reference it later if needed. Then I used my power screwdriver with a bit that fits the screws, thare all same size. With multiple wires, I always disconnect one wire at the time from old device, and install in the location on the new device. This way I don't get my wires confused, and never have to doubt whether I switched wires. As I connected wires to my new burners, I mount screws exactly as they were on my old burners. After I was done, I inspected my work, to make sure there is no bare , unconnected a wires hanging freely. Last thing was to lower the top, turn my circuit breaker on, test burners if they work. Finally, I attached the two mounting screws that hold top. They are at the bottom front of the top plate with burners. They sent me a cleaning liquid for $6 extra, and it helps in getting rid of some stains on the glass. It took me only 40 minutes to do it. Alan G Holland , MI May 31, 2015 Back burner on glass cooktop burned out It too more time to find the right company to purchase the burner than it did to replace it. Next time I need a repair, I will pass up Amazon, Sears etc and go directly to this Appliance Parts Pros and save myself all that time. They were 1/2 the price of my local store and as much as 40% less than other internet sources. The part was exactly the same as the original burner. Directions were quite good. Lou V Edmond , OK February 07, 2015 Appliance: Jenn-Air Electric Downdraft Surface Unit CVE3400W Front left burner would not operate The problem could have been the switch or the element. Since the "on" indicator light did operate and since a continuity check of the element required complete removal and dismantling of the whole cook top anyway, I chose to order the element. AppliancePartsPro had a great catalog, good price, and I received the part within two days. I removed the blower motor and its mount simply to facilitate removal of the cook top. Disassembly is easy with the unit turned upside down on a work surface, with careful notation of parts orientation for proper reassembly. I was then able to do a continuity check of the suspected element and confirmed an open in the coil. The replacement part fit perfectly with some good instructions on possible differences in parts applications over the years since my appliance was built.
