Richard A Disputanta , VA March 10, 2024 Appliance: Maytag Refrigerator MSD2454GRW The compressor started ran 5 seconds overload relay kicked out. The evaporator fan ran constantly. Ice forming on freezer surfaces. Replaced evaporator coil heater/thermostat per APPros guide. Found that heater element was open (infinite) resistance measurement. Ordered a new defrost heater & therm.asy. Had to defrost the evaporator coils with a hair dryer first to remove the old heater & thermostat assembly. The new unit purchased from APPros took less than 30 minutes to install after reviewing the video. Reinstalled back freezer cover panels, and now refrigerator cycles on/off correctly with no frost or ice forming in freezer or evaporator coil. Thank you, APPros, for having the part in stock and offering 2-day shipping to expedite repair on my 13 yr. old Maytag side by side refrigerator. Read More... Stephen S Flagstaff , AZ July 31, 2015 Appliance: Model MAYTAG MSD2142ARW The refrigerator was warming up but the freezer compartment was okay Originally, I found the evaporator/heat exchanger completely frozen up. I ohm checked the defrost heater/thermistor assembly and it was higher (475 ohms) than it should be. Then, I found the defrost timer contacts not working correctly. So, I replaced the defrost timer. Four days later, same problems. I ordered the heater/thermistor assy. When I pulled the old heater out I found it cracked in two places. I assume that when it started heating up, it expanded, arced and the connection was lost. I think this was probably the reason that the contacts in the defrost timer burned out. The refrigerator is working correctly now. Read More... Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 15-30 minutes Tools: Nut Drivers
