Michael K Paramus , NJ April 18, 2015 Appliance: Whirlpool LA5580XTW1 Replacement of rusty inner basket Ordered the parts from AppliancePartsPros - super fast shipping, and even though I opted for regular shipping all of my parts arrived the very next day, including the big and bulky inner basket. Disassembly went smoothly, simply following the directions in the AppliancePartsPros video. The only problem I had was that the inner basket simply would NOT come of the drive block no matter what I did. Struggled for a few hours trying to take it off. Then, I called AppliancePartsPros and they said it was not unusual to encounter this, and suggested using "PB Blaster" (which is available at Home Depot) to free it up. I generously sprayed the area where the basket sits on the drive block, waited 15 minutes and then soaked it again. APP said it might take up to 4 applications in 15 minute intervals. After the second spray and soak, the basket lifted of easily! I was amazed to find incredibly amounts of gunk and rust in and around the underside of the basket. Cleaned it all up as well as the plastic outer tub. Installed the new inner basket, locked it down with the spanner and easily reassembled the rest of the machine. Aside from the wrestling match to remove the basket, this would have been about an hour long repair. If you are removing the tub from an older machine, I suggest you just go ahead and pick up some PB Blaster in advance, you'll probably need it (wd40 didn't do the job). You'll probably also want to have the special spanner wrench to remove the locking nut from the driveshaft. It is available from APP as well. All in all the process could not have been smoother - from locating and ordering the parts on APP, to fast shipping, then to great instructions for the repair - all went well thanks to AppliancePartsPros! Richard D Sciotoville , OH July 27, 2016 Inner tub rusted and broke below center post Replaced tub, drive block, and spanner nut.Was not able to remove nut because of very heavy corrosion. I drilled holes in nut and broke nut apart and used a hacksaw to split the remaining tub post and pried it open to get it off. Went easy after that. John A Belleville , IL October 25, 2016 Appliance: Whirlpool Washer WTW5500SQ0 The neck of the tub had completely rusted through about 4 inches below the spanner nut it was in two pieces and wouldn't spin Removed agitator. Removed spanner nut with hammer and punch. Upper section of inner tub neck completely rusted on drive block. Cut this section off with hack saw and vise grips. There is a 1/4" wide slot in the drive block. You can saw the tub neck in this slot without damage to any other parts. Saw a little and then peel the metal back with the vise grips. Took about 1/2 hour. Once the neck was removed, the rest of the inner tub slid off easily. Installed new tub, re-used drive block and put on new spanner nut. Washer works like new. I placed the order on Thursday night and the tub was delivered Saturday by noon. Thank you!
