Ronald A Carlisle , PA September 30, 2015 Kitchenaid stand mixer motor would run planetary (mixer head) would not turn Originally I thought the worm gear had gone bad - the most common problem when the mixer head won't turn. Got a new worm gear and took extraapart the mixer (followed the instructions in an online video tutorial). The worm gear was fine! The problem turned out to be that the small metal pin that secures the worm gear and drive shaft together was missing (?). Don't know where it went or if it was ever there in the first place, but without it the drive shaft and worm gear do not work together to turn the planetary. This is a 10 year old mixer and it has worked fine until just recently. Crazy. Installed the pin and put everything back together, and it's fine. Kept the extra worm gear for use in the future, if needed. Read More... 4 People found this story helpful Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 30-60 minutes Tools: Pliers, Screwdrivers
Kendal S Pekin , IL January 10, 2021 Appliance: KitchenAid Mixer KSM150 The plastic worm gear the pinion gear & hub gear all had teeth sheared off in my daughter's Kitchen Aid artisan stand mixer. The multiple YouTube videos available made it a pretty straight forward step-by-step repair. Not all parts were in stock. They each shipped separately, but I got them all within a 2 week period. Process went pretty smoothly. However, when I first was diagnosing, I took the motor brushes out to check their wear, and did not put them back in until I had all the gears replaced and the mixer back together. Be careful, the brushes fit only a certain way. I had them oriented wrong, and the mixer would not run. Found another YouTube video that explained and showed exactly how they needed to be. Re -oriented them and everything was great. My daughter is happy! We've attributing that all the damage to the gears was due to not using the dough hook attachment, when she should have, on heavy dough. She plans to use it from now on. Everything I've read, indicated these mixers are "horses". Hopeful it will run for many more years. Read More... Wallace C Norman , OK November 28, 2022 Appliance: Model K55SS My KitchenAid stand mixer made a knocking sound when used. I replaced the worm gear from AppliancePartsPros.com The replacement was a little greasy, due to the lubrication for the gears, but was an easy job. The mixer now runs quietly and worked perfectly after the repair. I saved a mixer that is worth about $350.00! Read More... Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 1-2 hours Tools: Screwdrivers
