How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6006386 / WP2200376 Dryer Drive Motor

Maytag Legacy Series Dryer Model# SDE515DAYW (Designed by Amana) Replaced the following: Dryer Glides and glide felt pads Drum Support Rollers Belt Tension Pulley Belt We still had the noise so the next logical thing to replace was the motor as the sealed bearings can be an issue. Replaced the Motor and Blower Wheel. The dryer blower wheel was permanently attached to the motor shaft and I had to use a Dremel tool to cut the blower wheel off of the shaft. No big deal with the Dremel tool but another 2 day wait for a part. I removed a ton of lint in the blower ductwork just below the link trap that had reduced the air flow by at least 50%. The performance of the dryer is much better now as it no longer gets too hot. I highly recommend periodically removing the access panels to clean the ductwork between the lint trap and the blower. Maybe every couple of years. Also I could not find a clear direction on whether to lubricate the shafts where the rollers and tensioner pulley wheel are installed. I cleaned something off of the old shafts which lead me to believe that some lubricant had been used previously. I chose to use Permatex Ultra Disc Brake high temperature grease. Seems to work great. Some say it will attract lint and be an issue. We will see. The videos do not show my particular model but are similar enough for me to be able to disassemble and reassemble with no issues. My skill level is I can usually do a job like this but it takes about 5 times longer than a Pro due to the learning curve. AppliancePartsPro is so easy to use with incredibly fast shipping. Since finding out pulley on motor is factory installed, I had to order a new motor with new pulley on it. I could not remove old blower wheel from old motor, no matter how hard I tried so I had to purchase new blower wheel and new blower housing. I am super happy finding Appliancepartspros.com the prices, and my experience was great! I basically removed everything step by step, and then replaced with the new parts step by step. I had help by watching videos that were provided online before and in between this repair. This is my first time ever even thinking about, let alone attempting to repair my own dryer, but it was actually not too bad, once I figured out the problem, and the new parts that I needed. I thought all three parts would be shipped together, they were shipped separately, and on different days, but customer service was extremely helpful, and overall I highly recommend this online store. 

With this model dryer, the pulley that is attached to the drive shaft of the motor was stripped. The pulley holds the dryer belt so that when the motor runs it turns the belt. The pulley is aluminum and the drive shaft is steel. Guess which one gave? The drive shaft stripped out the threads on the pulley that hold it in place on the drive shaft. As a result, the motor turns and the drive shift spins inside the pulley and the pulley doesn't move. Guess who doesn't sell just the pulley? You guessed it! THE MANUFACTURER You have to buy a new motor to get the pulley. Stupid. Fairly easy repair, I recommend taking a photo with your phone of what wires attach where so you put them back in the right place. Also take a photo or make a mental note of how the dryer belt winds around the pulleys. To attach the belt, just pull the arm with the spring on it all the way to the right and it will give you the most room to attach the belt. If you haven't changed your belt in a while, great time to do that too. BIGGEST ISSUE The fan that attaches to the motor is plastic and has to be removed and reattached to the new motor. It takes a 7/8 socket and the nut is plastic. Was hard to break it free and I could see it cracking if you aren't careful.. Took about 1 hour to repair

Dryer was making squealing noises like a slipping belt. I removed the drum and didn't find any obvious problems with the rollers or idler pulley. I oiled the bearings on the rollers and idler, but after I reassembled the dryer, the motor ran but drum did not turn. When I disassembled it I found the pulley had come completely off the motor and its threads were stripped. I found I could not buy the pulley alone and thought I might try repairing with JB Weld. That repair failed after about 10 seconds of running so I ordered the new motor/pulley. To replace the motor you remove the screws from the blower housing cover and the two screws holding the motor/blower to the floor of the dryer. Then you can disconnect the wiring harness and pull the assembly out to work on it. You have to remove the blower wheel using a 7/8 socket holding the motor shaft with pliers. Then take blower housing off the motor by removing 3 screws. Use a big flat screwdriver to remove the clips that hold down the motor. I struggled a little bit with this. Put the motor assembly onto the floor or solid surface, hook the screwdriver into the slot on the clip and push down and out. If one side of the clip doesn't want to come off, put the screwdriver on the other side and try that. Reassembly of the new motor is probably easier than removal. Put one side of the clip on, then put the screwdriver on the other side and rap it with the heel of your hand. It should snap back on pretty easily. 

Initially, I traveled all over the town I live in trying to find this one part at the aft end of the motor. During my travels I found out that the piece is not one that is sold by itself......so ultimately I ordered the motor from Appliance Parts Pros at 10:04 on Tuesday which arrived at my house at 12:09 Wednesday by standard shipping. Now that's fast folks. I got off shift that night at 1900, I got home at 2000 thereabout and soon after I had the dryer running.........my household is now back to normal. Pulley disintegrated.replaced motor with pulley assembly.also tensioner arm pulley was seized.replaced it and the rollers and glides while I was at it.works like new 

First I want to mention the videos on your website were helpful in detailing the order and procedure in which to disassemble and put the dryer back together. I had to replace the motor which was making a lot of noise and then the dryer stopped running altogether. I strongly recommend replaceing the belt tension pully as these tend to wear more than other parts. Also replaced were the drum support rollers and the dryer belt. IMPORTANT, in order to remove the motor I had to remove the blower wheel. Simple enough but, the 7/8 nut holding it on to the motor would not loosen. I used a 6 point socket but it kept slipping off. The blower wheel is made of some kind of nylon compound (?). The nut itself is moulded around a metal sleeve threaded on the inside to screw onto the motor. Apparently this sleeve was siezed to the motor. I contacted AppliancePartsPros.com and it was suggested to chisel the wheel off. I had to remove the entire assembly from the dryer including the motor mount, not a big deal. Using a wood chisel I was able to get the wheel off without much of a problem but had to be careful not to damage the blower housing because it's my understanding they're no longer available. Of course I had to puchase a new blower wheel. I appreciate the advice given by AppliancePartsPros.com and now the dryer is up and running. I gave it a difficulty of 4 only because of the blower wheel. Other than that it's not a complicated fix at all.
