William H Cary , NC August 15, 2015 The cover crusher on my ge ice maker bucket shattered it hasn't been working well since we originally got the refrigerator sometimes we had to scoop ice out rather than get it through the door I looked for a site that sold replacement parts for my make of GE refrigerator. I found AppliancePartsPros, and was very surprised at how organized it was. By entering the model number of my refrigerator, I was shown a set of (approximately) 8 general parts diagrams for my refrigerator. I chose the ice making/dispensing diagram. I matched the part that shattered (from use) to what was on the diagram. What I didn't know was how to install the part. I saw references by other customer comments to video tutorials, but didn't see how to find them. After spending about 30 minutes reading comments from other customers, I discovered that the reference other customers made to tutorials was on a link on some (not all) parts that will help you with general questions about how to take an assembly apart and put it together again (in my case, the ice bucket). After watching a video (not for the part I thought I needed, but for an auger nut) I decided to replace the auger nut as well, as it was only just over $3 to replace. I also saw from other customer comments that they were replacing the Plate Helix Lock along with the Cover Crusher. I didn't see why this part needed replacement, but I decided to order it as well, as it was only around $8 more. I received the parts in 2 days, installed them in 30 minutes (because of the videos that AppliancePartsPros provided). Total cost (including shipping), $28. Cost of replacing the entire ice bin (and that doesn't include the ice maker) would have been $162. I'm happy, my wife is happy, and we both think the ice maker works better now than when we originally purchased the refrigerator. Thank you, AppliancePartsPros! Dennis V Parker , CO March 24, 2020 Not dispensing ice, making loud noise When I took it apart I found that the drive cup was cracked, the helix lock plate hole was reamed out and the ice deflector spring was broken. The biggest problem was the helix had slipped down the shaft and allowed the end of the shaft to bore a hole in the housing which made it a bear to get out. Others have had the same problem. Once I got past that obstacle, it was simple to replace all the parts and it's working like normal again. Very helpful video explaining the repair. James E Mission Viejo , CA December 14, 2014 Won"t dispense cubes The center of the old part was rounded out. Remove four philips screws holding ice container. Take a small screw driver and pry the blades and auger out of the container. Remove the rod that flips open the flapper. Remove clip and nut from end of auger. Carefully pull auger shaft thru the blades. Install new part and reverse the process to re-assemble. A video would be best to watch. Greg J Wylie , TX December 09, 2016 Appliance: General Electric Refrigerator PSC23MGSBBB Ice dispenser wasn't working making loud banging noise when operated Originally replaced just the Drive Cup (twice) since that was recommended first step to try. The Auger had also shifted toward the front of the unit and actually pushed the shaft through the Auger Nut and bored a hole through the front of the crusher chamber. Since I'd never examined the mechanism BEFORE it was broken, I hadn't paid close attention to the other parts. When the Drive Cup failed again after a week, I decided to read more and ordered another Drive Cup, Plate Helix Lock and Auger Nut. NOW the auger is staying properly aligned and HOPEFULLY we're good for another 11 years of service from the dispenser. Thanks to THIS WEBSITE I've saved HUNDREDs of dollars keeping my appliances in service. Read More... Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: Less than 15 minutes Tools: Pliers, Screwdrivers
