The Gasket-FIP (STL) is an OEM part for Whirlpool side-by-side refrigerators. This gasket fits around the fresh food evaporator inlet pipe inside the refrigerator. Its purpose is to form an airtight seal to prevent air leaks and increase efficiency.
Symptoms of a bad gasket include:
- Higher than normal energy usage
- Formation of frost or ice buildup in unexpected areas
- Temperature fluctuations inside the refrigerator or freezer compartments
- Strange odors coming from the refrigerator
Causes of a bad gasket can be wear and tear over time, cracks or tears in the sealing material, or improper installation that does not allow for a tight seal.
