Fix a dishwasher that won't drain or keeps draining during fill. This solenoid armature controls the drain valve. DIY repair in about 45 minutes.
About a year ago my dishwasher during a cycle was emitting a horrible plastic burning smell. We stopped it mid-cycle, cleaned it out and tried to run a few more cycles after that and realized it wouldn't drain so it sat in my kitchen broken for a year. Fix a dishwasher that won't drain completely with this piston and nut valve assembly. Simple DIY repair when water remains in tub after cycles.
It is very simple to fix. All the blogs recommend replacement of this part but do not explain why. This is a normally open check valve that permits the water from inside the dishwasher to drain out, either once it gets too high or just general splash. When the machine drains the pump comes on and the check valve closes. If the check valve is damaged or worn (like mine was) some of the water can pump back into the machine. Dishwasher not filling with water or leaking during cycles? The water inlet valve controls water flow. DIY-friendly repair, typically 10-30 minutes.
I took the inlet valve apart, found it was clogged with sediment, so I cleaned it and reinstalled it. Water was still not filing, so I figured the valve was sticking. I ordered a new valve,because $30 was a lot cheaper than a new dishwasher. I took out the old valve with two screws, and disconnected the supply line, the brass elbow, one hose, and a wiring harness. Fix a dishwasher that won't drain or drains constantly during wash cycles. This drain solenoid valve controls water drainage timing. Moderate DIY repair.
Took the washer out, turned it over and found the solenoid that worked the drain valve to be melted, and the shaft that the solenoid activates was heavily corroded. I found the right parts on your website after reading the notes left by other customers, then watched the video. The repairs were fairly simple and successful. This was a GE profile dishwasher. Fix dishwasher overflows or underfilling with a new water level float. This part regulates filling by rising with water to signal the switch.
