The diffuser has something like a fan underneath that had gone separate from the body. The fan arms were chipped underneath. I thought that might have lead the spray arm to tilt and brush the heat coil, leading to melting on the sides.
So, I changed the Diffuser & Lower Spray Arm. I think now the spray arm is parallel and staying above the heat coil. Hopefully it stays that way!

The dishwasher is 4 years old, so I figured since it was leaking from the bottom, replacing the Tub Gasket PN: AP5690109, Splash Shield Kit PN: AP4338941 , and the bottom Door Seal/Gasket PN: AP5809675 was a good idea; the machine probably has around 1200 cycles in 4 years. There's no telling how much the door had opened and closed!? The pump impeller had sheared its connection to the motor shaft and the seal had disintegrated. Subsequent running had eaten the plastic motor shaft to about 2/3rds of its original diameter. Motor (and shaft) are no longer available so I filled the gouged area with JB Weld and then filed it down to original size. Fortunately the shaft doesn't have to be super perfect because the upper portion of the seal spins with the shaft so it just needs to grip and be concentric.
