For Whirlpool Electronic Control Board (Part Number: OEM18035655)

B for Model Number WFW9400SW01

My washer performs normally until the spin cycle, when it stops and displays the F25 code. I have tried all of the other options to complete washing a load, even just Drain and Spin. That worked a couple of times, but it seems like the weight of the load is also an issue. When I lighten the load (and I mean like one twin sized sheet) it will spin normally. What could be the source of my problem; the Motor Control Board or Electronic Control Board?

Hello B, the main control board is not getting the correct tach (rpm) reading from the motor control board which is getting it from the tachometer in the motor assembly. Since this seems to occur when the wash load is heavier which translates into more tub movement, usually this involved the wire harness to the motor, check the 2 tan wires (tach circuit) from the motor control board to the motor. Sometimes the wire terminals can come loose, the wires have been rubbed thru along its length or are actually coming apart internally.

Roger, if the wires going from the motor WP8182793 to the motor control are secure and intact (identified by testing from the wires at the motor control for resistance and each wire combination should measure 6 Ohms), the motor will need to be tested using the diagnostic mode to perform a forced operation. If the motor does not operate, the MCU WP8183196 would need to be replaced.

Hello Darren. The Motor Control Unit has internal failure; repeating under or over voltage, or over current conditions. If failure occurs during high-speed spin the door unlocks after 3 minutes. Possible Causes/Procedure 1. Unplug washer or disconnect power. 2. Check wire harness connections between the drive motor and the Motor Control Unit (MCU), and between the MCU and the Central Control Unit (CCU). Check the motor and do a continuity test. 3. Plug in washer or reconnect power. 4. Check the MCU by looking for operations of the drive motor. 5. Check the drive motor for powered rotations. 6. Replace MCU board.

Bruce, With getting the F20 code which is for no water being detected and the F28 which is a communication issue between the CCU and MCU then this will most likely be a CCU error which is part number WP8183259.

Hello Jay. If a Central Control Unit Heartbeat Failure is displayed, no communication is detected from the Central Control Unit to the User Interface. Possible Causes/Procedure 1. Check for continuity of the User Interface harness. 2. Check wire harness connections to the User Interface and the Central Control Unit. 3. Replace User Interface if drum is rotating. 4. Replace Central Control Unit if drum is not moving.

Hello Steven. Possible Causes/Procedure 1. Unplug washer or disconnect power. 2. Check wire harness connections to the MCU, the motor, and Central Control Unit (CCU). – Check connections of the CCU board within the housing. – Make sure all grounding switches are engaged. 3. Check the drive system for any worn or failed components. 4. Plug in washer or reconnect power. 5. Verify CCU operation by running a Diagnostic Test or any cycle. 6. Check the MCU by looking for operations of the drive motor. 7. Check the drive motor for powered rotations. 8. Check that the serial harness at the MCU is not mounted upside down. The wires should be to the left when facing the MCU connectors.

Hello Kevin. You will test for power coming to the CCU and then out of the CCU. If it does not come out, replace the CCU. If it does come out, replace the interface.

Michael for Model Number WFW9400SW02

I have washer that originally displayed F71, after disconnecting and reconnecting F71 changed to F72. no other displays. I had replaced user interface and now there is no display at all. prior to that for a while washer was vibrating intensively. I guess from what I read it could be bad connection between user interface and microcomputer. my drum rotates without problem. the technician tells me that it is hard to check harness and needs to be replaced. is there is a way to check signal out of the microcomputer? once I replaced user interface there is no signal on the display but start button beeps when pushed Thanks in advance for your response, Michael WFW9400SW02

1 Answer

Michael, You will want to check the continuity of the user interface harness to make sure that the harness is not bad. Check the connections of the harness at the interface and the central control unit. If the drum is not moving replace the Central control unit WP8183259.
