John May 27, 2013 Ok. Read all the Q and As. This is what I have, F70, ran thru the cleaning the wires. Plugged the washer back in then I get a, F71. WTH? Then unplugged ran thru the wires again. Then I read where I needed to replace the bottom panel where there is a switch on the lower right side. Did that, pushed the power button and the unit turned on and ran for 8 wash cycles. Now we are back to the F70 and F71 codes. So now my question is, do I replace the CCU or the CI? Please do not quote the manual I need someone to speak in layman terms. Thanks, John
1 Answer John, It sounds like it could be a control board issue but we would need to have the model number of the unit to assist properly. Please post your model number with a new question on the parts page. http://www.appliancepartspros.com/modelnumber_locator.aspx Read More...
Ryan J. April 17, 2013 for Model Number wfw9400sw01 I got the f70 error code on my washer. I bought the user interface board and replaced it since the drum does rotate. This did not fix the problem. Should I replace the CCU or the door lock mechanism? Right now it wont turn on. Only gives the the three short beeps when i hit power button. I can do diagnostic test and I believe it starts with locking the door but that does not happen. Also there is no audible click from the ccu when i plug the washer in. I read there should be a click as in a relay switch when i plug it in
1 Answer Hello Ryan, If a Central Control Unit Heartbeat Failure is displayed, no communication is detected from the Central Control Unit to the User Interface. Check the following for the issue: 1. Check for continuity of the User Interface harness. 2. Check wire harness connections to the User Interface and the Central Control Unit. (Un-plug and re-connect each connector on both ends) 3. Replace User Interface W10319813 if drum is rotating. 4. Replace Central Control Unit WP8183259 if drum is not moving. Read More...
Jimb April 09, 2013 for Model Number wfw9400su00 What is the problem when the F 28 code shows? Thanks Jim
1 Answer Hello Jimb. The communication between the Central Control Unit (CCU) and the Motor Control Unit (MCU) cannot be sent correctly. Possible Causes/Procedure 1. Unplug washer or disconnect power. 2. Check wire harness connections to the MCU, the motor, and Central Control Unit (CCU). – Check connections of the CCU board within the housing. – Make sure all grounding switches are engaged. 3. Check the drive system for any worn or failed components. 4. Plug in washer or reconnect power. 5. Verify CCU operation by running a Diagnostic Test or any cycle. 6. Check the MCU by looking for operations of the drive motor. 7. Check the drive motor for powered rotations. 8. Check that the serial harness at the MCU is not mounted upside down. The wires should be to the left when facing the MCU connectors. Read More...
Adam March 09, 2013 for Model Number wfw9400sws02 I've gotten the f71 error for the whirpol washer and now it won't power up. Does this mean the user interface or the control unit isn't working or both?
1 Answer Adam, The F71 error means that the user interface is not communicating with the control board. You will want to check for continuity of the user interface harness. Check the wire harness connections to the user interface and control board. If contacts are dirty they can be cleaned with rubbing alcohol. If drum is rotating then replace the User interface and if not then the control board. Read More...
Lara February 08, 2013 for Model Number wfw9400sw02 Before replacing any parts, when you hit the power button, it gave you three short beeps. I was told to replace part 8183259 (electronic control board) which I did. It still only gives me 3 short beeps. Is there some type of "reset" that I need to do after replacing this part or am I back to square 1? thanks
1 Answer Lara, If you haven't yet, you want to check and make sure the child lock out setting has not been activated, by accident. Then you'll need to retrieve the tech data sheet from the backside of the lower access panel, and conduct the diagnostics and test modes. You'll want to check for any dooe switch door lock error codes. If the control board doesn't see the door open and close between cycles, it will not program and will produce three beeps, as well. Bernard B December 04, 2012 for Model Number WFW9400SW02 My Whirlpool Duet front-loading washer (WFW9400Sw02) has worked well for almost tree years. But it cannot start and then cannot power up recently. At beginning, it could not start when pressing start button and showed F70 error code. then I unplugged the power cord from the outlet on the wall and plugged it back, the washer got worse: when hitting the power button, it gave me a chime tone, nothing lights up at all. What is this problem? Why nothing lights up after unplug machine? Is this problèm occured suddenly(No Fuse card). Is it a récurrent problèm ?
1 Answer Bernard, The "F70" error code, was telling you there was a communication error between the user interface W10319813 and the CCU WP8183259, you'll need to check the wiring between the two control boards, and replace the UI, if all's OK. No this is not a recurring issue. Read More...
Larry M November 04, 2012 for Model Number whirlpool wfw9400sw00 Have you ever heard of a A-17 code. My washer will run for a while the the door will unlock for no reason. I can sometimes press start and it will resume only to stop again. Eventually it will come up with the A-17 code.

George M. October 04, 2012 for Model Number WFW9400SB00 I get F25 error, already replaced motor control board at bottom of machine. What do I try next. Starting to get expensive. Also checked resistance on motor and reseated all wires.
1 Answer Hello George, If you checked between terminals 4 and 5 on the motor and got 115O of resistance, you should next check for 5Vdc between M3-1 and M3-3 at the motor terminals while the motor should be running. If you get this reading, you will need to replace the CCU. Read More...
Henry October 04, 2012 for Model Number WFW9400SW00 How do you remove the CCU from the machine for replacement?
1 Answer Hello Henry. Disconnect the power and remove the top panel from the unit. Then access the board and release the tabs on the back and slide the board toward the back of the unit to remove from the side frame. Once removed from the frame, unplug all wires and install the new CCU into the unit. Read More...
Sydney S August 29, 2012 for Model Number wfw9400sw01 I am getting a F 28 code on my Duet . you can do the start button the door will lock the water will start the timer will start the tub doesn't start after 3-4 minutes the F 28 code comes on. What do I do?
1 Answer Sydney, The "F28" error code indicates a communication error between the CCU WP8183259 in the control panel area, and the MCU WP8183196 in the right side area of the lower cabinet / base. It is usually caused by a faileed circuit in the MCU, but you will need to check the wiring harness between the two control boards ,and the harness from the MCU to the motor. You will probably find the tech data sheet taped to the cabinet interior in the same area, and can conduct the prescribed tests and circuit checks per the information. You'll need to remove the lower front access panel(3 screws) and the top( 3 screws across the back of the top). to access the components and wiring. Read More...
