Amber December 28, 2016 for Model Number MEDB400VQ0 Replaced the Thermistor but still triggering a F22 error code. Dryer is on and all lights work. When I start the dryer, the timer starts counting down but the dryer is not going. Any suggestions on what could be wrong?
1 Answer Amber, If you replaced the exhaust thermistor on the blower housing WP8577274 and you're still displaying the F22 error code, in the timed dry setting, you'll need to open the console, access the machine control board, disconnect the thermistor wires and check the resistance reading across the wires with a multi meter. If the resistance reading is in range, you'll need to replace the machine control board. if the resistance is incorrect, you'll need to check for a loose connection or brokrn wire between the machine control board and the thermistor. Gwenn September 26, 2016 for Model Number MDE5500AYQ Need to replace thermistor 307208 which I know is no longer available. One post said that you could use WP8577274. Is this true? Surely don't want to have to buy a new dryer because they stopped making a $20 part. Certainly another thermistor could do the same job. Please help.
1 Answer Hello Gwenn. No, you can not use the other thermistor on this model. The thermistor needed has been permanently discontinued by the manufacturer and we don't know of any source or replacement for the part. Read More...
Mark July 25, 2016 I have a Maytag / Whirlpool dryer that I believe has a bad thermistor. The thermistor part # 307208. From what I have been told, the model of thermistor is no longer made. Does anyone know if there is a replacement made for this particular thermistor. If so, can someone tell me what the part number is and where I might porder one from. Thanks, Mark
1 Answer Mark, Unfortunately the thermistor has been discontinued by the manufacturer with no suitable replacement available. Read More...

Attila September 29, 2015 for Model Number MDE5500AYW Hi its Me again you answered my question about a thermistor but the following question is.Is the thermistor the problem if the dryer works good on the time dry but on sensor dry on any settings cools down after 4-5 minutes. could that be that moisture sensore? Or i should replace both the thermistor and the moisture sensore. Thank you Attila
1 Answer Attila, The moisture sensor will most likely be the cause for the unit not drying on the auto cycle but you will also want to make sure that the venting is clear. Read More...
Attila September 28, 2015 for Model Number MDE5500AYW Hi my dryer doesn`t work properly. I would like to know what controls the temperature in the dryer is the thermistor? I have a sensor dry on it when I put it on low and normal is usually 27 minutes but after 4-5 minutes it goes to cool down. Same with any other program looks like it doesn`t hold the heat for a long enough. What do you suggest I should check? Thank you Attila
1 Answer Hello Attila. Yes, the thermistor is used for temp control inside the drum. It communicates with the control board. Read More...
Mustanger361 October 08, 2014 for Model Number Maytag MDG5500AWW What is the function of the thermistor in my Maytag gas dryer? Is it just a temp probe, or does it also control the heat? It mounts right next to the cycling thermostat, at the exit of the blower. Also, should a gas or electric dryer of the same brand and type dry the same load in the same amount of time?
1 Answer Hello Mustanger361. It is used to read the temp of the exhaust temp on the dryer. As for Gas vs Elect, there is no way of tell which dries faster. Read More...
Akatexan September 30, 2014 for Model Number Kenmore elite dryer Model # 110.64994301 The dryer is not heating. I have continuity @ the thermal fuse, 10K ohms at the thermister @ room temp, and continuity @ the thermal cutoff fuse, High limit thermostat and the element its' self.
1 Answer AKA Texan, There are 2 components other than the thermostats which would cause the heating element not to work. First is the motor and second the timer. The best option is to disconnect the power to the unit and access the heating element. Disconnect one wire that is going to the heating element, preferably the one on the thermostat side. Plug the unit back up and using a multimeter you will want to turn the dryer on and test for 120 vac at the terminal on the heater where the wire was disconnected. What this will do is eliminate the heater element itself and the motor. If there is 120 vac at this point then you know the heater is good and the motor is good because the other 120 vac coming through the thermostats is the timer side of the circuit. If there is not 120 vac at that point then you will want to test the other terminal on the heater and check for 120 vac. If there is not 120 vac then the motor would be bad and if there is 120 vac then the heater would be the issue. Read More...
David September 03, 2014 for Model Number GGW9200LW0 It takes forever to dry our laundry. I cleaned out all the lint from everywhere, including the duct and dryer vent and checked its operation. The flame comes on for 14 seconds then turns of for 1-2 minutes. This happens continually. I checked the fuse and it has continuity. I checked the thermistor and it has 9.5k ohms at room temp. Is it a solenoid problem or do I need to check something else?
1 Answer Hello David. Try running the dryer without the vent pipe hooked up. If it still short cycles, replace the gas valve coils on the unit. If the issue continues, check the thermostats. Read More...
Pasquale February 05, 2014 for Model Number MDG5500AWG GAS DRYER My dryer heats intermittently. At one point when I noticed the clothes were damp I smelled slight gas smell. I noticed that the igniter glows and within a few seconds a blue flame comes on and then 15 seconds later the igniter starts loosing its glow. Is this normal? What do you think is causing this intermittent heating?
1 Answer Hello PASQUALE. Yes, that is normal operation. It sounds like the venting system is clogged or kinked. You will need to check the vent and clean it out. Be sure and clean the vent pipe and the dryer air duct assembly. If the air flow is not good, the unit will retain moist air causing the clothes not to dry. Try running the unit with the vent unhooked from the back of the dryer and see if the dryer works properly. Read More...
