This replacement part is a screw. This is a genuine replacement part made by MTD. Screws are small but important to the overall workings of many appliances. Screws work with other small pieces such as nuts and washers to keep parts secure during use.A new screw might be needed if the current one is missing or damaged. This can be caused by normal wear and tear with years of use. Screws endure large amounts of friction over time and can become worn down. If this is the case, be sure the replace the part as it might not be as effective as normal. Refer to the user manual for specific directions on the replacement of this part. This part is sold individually and is sourced directly from the manufacturer. This is a genuine OEM replacement part.
Hex head cap screw with SEMS washer for lawn tractors. Replaces missing, stripped, or damaged fasteners on engine and deck assemblies. 5/16-24 thread.
This is a flanged lock nut. It’s designed to apply tension, typically on a joint that needs to have a certain amount of flex. As such, it’s mostly used on snowblower chutes and lawnmower handles. They can remain in place, but with a forgiving connection that can take a beating. The nut size is 3/8, with a thread size of 16. A lock nut will generally last for many years. However, the silicone ring inside will wear down if it’s frequently tightened and loosened. It needs to be replaced when it will no longer reliably remain in place. Generally, this begins as a symptom of slight slippage and worsens as time goes on. Thankfully, whether it’s being used on a snowblower or a lawnmower, this nut is generally straightforward to access. Simply unscrew the old nut, then screw the new nut on until it’s nice and tight. Our flanged lock nuts are genuine OEM MTD nuts, and they are sold individually.
