Oven goes dark after self-clean? This thermal fuse cuts power when overheating occurs. Common failure after cleaning cycles. Easy DIY repair.
First, don't self clean your oven before the holidays. In fact, read up on what damage the self cleaning feature can do to your oven. How did I fix it, I went on line and saw the comments of appliancepartspros.com. I figured out that it was the thermal fuse that probably went wrong since my oven just went lights out after the cleaning. My oven is a Kitchenaid model # KEBS179BSSOO. The part for this model is AP6022801 or WPW10545255. I spoke with technical support but I still had questions. I... Read more
Oven won't heat after self-cleaning? This thermal fuse cuts power when overheating occurs. Common DIY repair takes under 10 minutes with basic tools.
This is for the Whirlpool in-wall double oven GBD307PDS10. No power and the door locked after the shutdown before the self-cleaning cycle was over. I watched some video and this is a known issue the fuses blow during self-cleaning. I opened the door with a 90-degree hook, an easy task. Took doors off (watch video from others), unscrewed from the wall, and made a very small platform. and took the oven out (need two people and take the doors off first. The doors are heavy and you won't lift the... Read more
Oven won't heat after self-clean cycle? A blown thermal fuse cuts power when temps spike. Easy DIY fix—disconnect power, test with multimeter, replace.
The Thermal Fuse is an OEM part for Whirlpool ovens. This part cuts off power to the oven if it detects excessively high temperatures, preventing potential overheating and ensuring safe operation.
Over time, the thermal fuse can fail due to regular use, exposure to high temperatures, or electrical issues.
Symptoms of a bad thermal fuse include:
This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper and some Kenmore models.
Replaced fuse. It took much longer to get the oven out of the wall to access the fuse and replace the front panel than to do the repair. This fuse failed at the end of the cleaning cycle for the bottom oven and left the door locked because the open fuse removed the 120v power from the control board. The locked door made it impossible to remove one of the screws holding the wall oven in place. However, after I ground off the head of the screw behind the edge of the locked door I was able to... Oven won't heat or has no power after self-clean? A blown thermal fuse is likely the cause. This safety part cuts power if temps get too high.
Oven won't heat after self-cleaning? A blown thermal fuse cuts power to protect the control. Requires pulling the oven out to access rear panel.
Like a boss! Seriously, removed oven from wall (2 screws), removed about 15 sheet metal screws from front and top covers, unplugged wire harnesses one (or a few) at a time. Reassembled. Hint. Take a picture of wiring before removing and mark old parts (especially thermal fuse) with sharpie before removing so you don't get confused. It's really hard to tell a used electrical part from a new one. Read more
Microwave won't turn on or has no power? A blown fuse is often the cause. This safety component protects against electrical surges and short circuits.
I have a Jenn-Air microwave that didn't turn on and had no lights. It just stopped working completely. I unplugged the unit and had to remove the rear cover using a *security screw kit* that prevents people from opening the rear panel. Once opened, I removed the fuse and testing it with an OHM reader to determine that the fuse went bad. But I also had to determine why the fuse blew and noticed a sticky oily substance under the Capacitor. I used a rubber glove and needle nose pliers to... Read more
Oven won't unlock after self-clean or control panel is blank? This thermal fuse thermostat protects your range. Easy DIY fix in under 30 minutes.
Based on information found at AppliancePartsPros, I determined that the it was most likely the thermostat (thermal fuse). I removed the rear panel and tested the fuse for continuity and it was bad. I used a jumper wire to bypass the fuse and plugged the range back in. The panel turned on and the oven unlocked. I then removed the thermostat and looked up the replacement part and ordered. I read up on others with this problem of microwave-wall oven combination Whirlpool Gold. We live in a very rural area and were not able to get ANYONE to service it - had 2 companies come out to inspect but they never returned. I have wonderful news! We replaced the fuse, bus fuse, and light bulb (quit working 2 years ago) and all is working. Thanks for the information and for the part diagram. Couldn't have done it without you. Read more
