James F Cary , NC August 15, 2015 Appliance: Whirlpool Washer WTW7600XW0 Cabrio whirlpool washer after a heavy washer load the drum went out of balance and threw a f51 code indicating the rps sensor needed replacement Disconnected the water lines and unplugged the washer. Tilted the machine on its front side 3/4 of the way as machine still retains some water even after drain. From bottom of the machine I used an allen wrench to remove screw in center of shroud and remove plastic shroud containing the magnets along its sides thar drives the motor. Then using a 3/8 socket i removed the 4 bolts holding the retaining plate holding the magneto ring. I used a small plastic garbage can side to rest the magneto ring while I disconnected the RPS sensor. The RPS sensor has 2 end tabs that fit into the magneto ring. Use a thin small screwdriver to pop the tabs from the ring. Remove the plug in wire by depressing a small tab on the plug-in. Now the last thing is to remove the wire harness from the RPS sensor. Use a needle nose plier to depress the pushin button and push it through for wire removal from sensor. Now connect wiring to the new RPS sensor. Push harness button onto new sensor and plug in. Line up the sensor on the magneto where the end tabs will snap back into place. Then remount the magneto ring and retaining center plate with the 4 bolts. Then mount the plastic shroud with the allen center screw. No need to overtighten.. Stand machine back upright. Open top lid. Ensure the drum is in place by placing hands on inside edge of drum and pull upward. This should reseat the drum into place. Hook up the water lines and plug in power and should be good to go. Hope this helps.. Read More... 55 People found this story helpful Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 30-60 minutes Tools: Pliers, Socket Set, Wrench Set
Alfonso G Dyer , IN October 14, 2014 Appliance: Maytag Washer MVWB450WQ2 Maytag bravo 300 series erroring with code f51 Description of issue: Error "F51" erroring during the wash cycle. Solution: replace the sensor part #"AP4539632". The sensor detect motion between cycles. I removed the sensor that is mounted to the bottom of the washer on the coil, disconnected it and sprayed die electric cleaner into the connections and the connectors. Put it back together and no problems ever since. I may hang on the the sensor I purchased though, this may be an indicator this part is going bad. Thomas B San Diego , CA November 24, 2014 Appliance: Maytag Washer MVWB300WQ1 Maytag code f51 washer failed at spin cycle Called a supposedly qualified Maytag repair man. I gave him lots of internet info indicating that F51 error code was a sensor problem. After 3 hours, he left saying it was the costly control panel ($279 plus installation). After watching AppliancePartsPros utube on replacing the sensor, I decided to tackle the job myself. APA had the sensor part here the next day. It was very easy to install and the washer now works fine. My wife is super happy as we saved $500 from the new washer she had ordered from HD. The Appliance repair shop did refund the repair mans visit charge. Leonard D Orland Hills , IL March 08, 2017 Appliance: Maytag Washer MVWB300WQ1 F51 error code on a maytag he washer Error code indicates a problem with Rotor Position Sensor (RPS) I would encourage anyone buying a part (even from appliancespartpros.com competition) watch the videos demonstrating part removal/installation. Even if you know what you are doing(or think you do) The videos have kept me from doing damage during disassembly. I am sure I could have figured it out but what else would I have broken getting it apart. Great videos, Thanks. Michael B Lake Stevens , WA July 25, 2016 Appliance: Maytag Washer MVWB850YW1 Maytag bravos xl washing machine bad motor rotor sensor Washer would stop during the spin cycle and show an error code of: F51 Found error code list online and it indicated a bad Motor Rotor Sensor. Went on YouTube and watched a couple of videos on how to replace it. It wasn't very hard, and I have washed about 10 loads in the last couple days with no problems. I also pulled the drum in order to confirm nothing was trapped underneath. The hardest part was getting the top off. The videos showed them taking it off by prying on the front with a putty knife. That would not work, back to YouTube and another indicated I had to take 2 screws out of the top of the green brackets on the back of the control panel. After that, it was a breeze.
