Daryl B Gloucester , VA August 12, 2021 Appliance: Maytag 30" Electric Ceran Freestanding Range Self Clean Conve MER7662WQ1 Burners were working correctly most of the time but would stay in the on position (high )periodically and would not shut off automatically for the temperature you set the burner for Replaced the burner Infinite switches for the burners having the issue. Here are the latest part numbers for this model Maytag. Left rear (LR) and right rear (RR) burners are both 6" and use the same switch. Part # WP3149404. Left front (LF) is an 11 1/2" burner Part# W10167742. The right front (RF) burner is a double burner 6" center and 9 1/2" outside burner Part #WPW10149355. Very simple repair. Unplug the stove, remove the rear panel, remove the switch knob, remove the 2 switch screws, unplug the 2 wire connectors. The 2 wire connectors were pretty tight so I just used a small flat-tipped screwdriver to gently pry each corner of the connector until it popped loose. Reverse procedures. The only snafu was the switch for the 6" burners #WP3149404 have an extra long switch shaft to accommodate other model stoves that must be snapped off to shorten the length so that the knob will fit as it should. Simply remove the little black clip, hold the switch shaft with a pair of needle-nose pliers as close to the switch as possible, take a pair of regular pliers, and remove the outer end section by wiggling it back and forth until it snaps off. Reinstall the black clip in the rearmost groove and install the knob. I did this with the switch installed and it was really simple. There are no included instructions to tell you this so I was thinking I got the wrong switch, not the case. I called Appliance Parts Pro and they said that there is a video online that shows how to do this. For some, just looking at it you can figure it out. This procedure for snapping off the switch shaft applies to my model Maytag but may not apply to other models or brands. Check your original switch shaft length before you go through this procedure. Michael D Rockledge , FL November 25, 2014 Regulation of burners became intermittant would sometimes "come on full heat" regardless of knob position Unplugged stove, removed upper rear sheet metal cover. Replaced Surface unit/infinite switch(s). New units are an exact match. Easy wire trade out. Included wire diagrams were correct. Amperage draw printed on new switches varied by .5 amps with OEM units on my stove, but is not a problem in operation or performance. James D St. Paul , MN January 19, 2015 Appliance: Model WHIRLPOOL RF368LXMB The burner on my glass top whirlpool stove suddenly had one setting: high I replaced the "infinite switch," behind the burner dial. I found the replacement part and ordered it from ApplicancePartsPros.com. It arrived in about three days. I watched the video on the Appliance Pros websit and followed instructions: I unplugged the unit, removed six screws (with a power screw driver) holding the back cover plate, removed the connection block and spade-connected wires from the old switch and put them on the posts on the new switch. I pulled off the knob of the old switch, removed two mounting screws, put in the new switch and mounted it with the two screws, removed a spring clip from the stem of the new switch to snap off a piece of the stem to match the depth of the knob, replaced the clip and the knob, replaced the back cover with the six screws, plugged in the stove, and tested it. It took 15 minutes. Read More... 30 People found this story helpful Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 15-30 minutes Tools: Screwdrivers
