Range / Cooktop / Oven Glass Top Or Cook Top

I unplugged the stove. I opened the oven door and removed the two srews holding the front of the cooktop to the stove. I raise the cooktop then remove the four screws holding the burners to the cooktop. I remove the four screws from the hinges then I removed the cooktop. I found a posting online for someone who had replaced a burner for the range same model, which required almost the same disassembly procedure as replacing the cooktop assembly itself. Needed to replace burner box panel (pan under electric coil burners) and replace stove top (black panel that surrounds the burners). BB was corroded, had a couple big holes from liquid boil-overs (salted water) from the last 10 years. The stove top looked nasty. It was chipped & scratched badly. When I first went online to search for the cooktop, I pulled up the picture and thought "this won't work for me because the big hole is in the upper right and mine needed to be in the lower left. So I went to the appliance place here in Honolulu to order a black top and they said it didn't come in black. So back to ApplianceParts Pros I went. I turned off the breaker to the Cook top, I then got under the counter and pushed the cook top through the opening in the counter, placed the cook top over the opening on the counter to stabilize it and then I used a Phillip head screwdriver removed all the screws , lifted the broken glass and put on the new glass, replaced the screws, placed the cook top back into the opening on the counter and turned back on the breaker. Ordered the part and installed myself. Received payout from home warranty of $750 since they could not source the part quickly. I decided to order the part online through appliancepartspro since they were the best price. Repair was very straightforward and easy. 10 screws around the cooktop for easy removal, longest part was vacuuming out the old glass. The cooktop set into place and really did not need any sealer since it was heavy enough to sit back in place without moving. Read more
