A shear pin or shear bolt is specially made to provide auger connection to the shaft. When a foreign object comes in contact with the machine's moving part, the shear pin will break away. By doing so, the snowblower's auger system, as well as the gearbox, is safe from sustaining damage. This unique function of a shear pin means that it will need to be replaced sooner or later.
