This safety thermostat is a temperature-sensitive switch that helps protect your appliance from overheating. When excessive heat is detected, it opens the circuit to stop power to critical components, helping prevent damage and ensuring safe operation.
- Monitors temperature at a specific location and interrupts power if it exceeds a safe limit
- Can cause no power, no heat, or shutdown during use when failed or tripped
- Helps prevent overheating damage to internal components
- Restores normal operation when replaced
What's included: Safety thermostat only. Install notes:
- Disconnect power to the appliance before service
- Note wire positions and terminal orientation before removal
- Use proper tools and avoid bending or stressing terminals
- After installation, check for underlying overheating causes (blocked airflow, failed fan, etc.)

20 year old Whirlpool dryer would stop mid cycle. Jonathan S. • Alexandria , VA • August 29, 2020
I don't have a multimeter so couldn't check all voltages or resistances on suspect parts. I assumed it had to be the two thermostat units - the thermostat or the dryer cycling thermostat. These were not expensive parts so ordered both and installed both. Very easy to remove back panel and replace with the new parts, making sure the OEM numbers were the same. Put back panel on, plugged back in and it fired right up - time will tell if these were the culprits. Not much left electronics wise on...

Part Number: WE04X10028
This thermostat control replaces the oven's temperature-regulating switch to help restore accurate bake and broil temperatures. It helps the oven reach and hold the set temperature for more consistent cooking results. What it does:
- Senses oven temperature and cycles the heating element or gas valve to maintain the selected temperature.
- Restores consistent bake and broil performance when the oven overheats, underheats, or cycles on and off erratically.
- Can resolve issues with uneven cooking, long preheat times, or temperature that doesn't match the setpoint.
- Interfaces with the oven control harness to manage temperature regulation during cooking cycles.
What's included: One thermostat control. Install notes:
- Disconnect power to the appliance at the breaker before starting any repair.
- Handle the control carefully to avoid damage to terminals and mounting hardware.
- Verify wire connections and routing before restoring power; secure mounting per the oven's service instructions.

Part Number: WE4X856
This internal-bias thermostat senses oven temperature and helps the control board maintain the set heat level. Replacing a failing thermostat restores more consistent temperature control and more reliable cooking results. What it does:
- Senses cavity temperature and signals the control to cycle the heating element or burner
- Regulates heating cycles so the oven reaches and holds the set temperature
- Common symptoms: oven takes too long to heat, temperature fluctuates or runs too hot, or the oven cycles on/off erratically
What's included: One thermostat Install notes:
- Disconnect power (unplug or shut off circuit breaker) before servicing to avoid shock
- Access location varies by model—part is typically mounted near the control or inside the oven cavity housing
- Handle the sensor element and terminals carefully to avoid damage; reuse of mounting hardware depends on your model
